Okay, so I've been away for a couple of days, but I have plenty to tell. I was given some notes from the School board Retreat on saturday at the Professional Development Ctr. I thought it was odd that on of the topics discussed was the "Fair Dismal Act" - termination and nonrenewal of contracts. Hmmm could this had been because the community was sending Heatley and his minions e-mails quoting chapter and verse from this OCGA code when he tried to demote the principals in Clayton. I will venture to say there is a direct correlation.
****Teachers of Clayton- I will advise you to become well versed in O.C.G.A 20-2-940 it may very well save your job. According to Dr. Hendrix teachers are not trained on this and this works to the Board of Ed's benefit. It's in your handbook so read it carefully, so you know what your rights are. Email me at logical.lane@gmail and I will be more than happy to give you some clarification.
Next on the agenda was the shuttle. I was passed some interesting info. If your child goes to a school out of district you can get bus service on a shuttle. There is a work around, of course the county is not going to tell you about and it's perfectly legal. Again email me.
I'm not sure how I feel about this little pearl of information. Our school system is trying to figure out if they want to convert to a charter sytem. That can be good or bad. Basically it seems to me that they want to give each individual school enough rope to hang themselves and also delegate the least amount of power to the school councils. Hint: You must go to every meeting the Board has and Join your local school council. A charter system can work if the principal and community buy in and the school council is strong, educated in the law and school policies.
Last but not least- there have been some scandals and investigations going on at the school board. It is my understanding that an administrator at the Central office was accused of sexual harrasment of a subordinate. The administrator was not removed from the bldg during the investigation that Heatley conducted. According to a lawyer (which works for the board), an independent investigator should have handled the case to maintain the integrity of the investigation. Thing that make you go hmmm.. Why is it that Heatley is always near when one of his Nupes gets into a scrape?
Mindset Matters
I was told once that people can only do to you what you allow. So, why do the residents of Clayton county allow our School board to miseducate our children, misappropriate funds, and disrepect our teaching professionals? Here we are going to come together and work towards a common goal- Educating and preparing our kids for a global economy. Are you ready to be re-educated? If the answer is yes keep reading and feel free to leave a post.

Should Clayton County Sheriffs be employed in our schools?
This is a question that I have been trying to gain some understanding on. After reviewing information presented to me, I have some questions. Since this is my moment I get to have an opinion. Want to hear it? Here it is... I definitely questioned the validity and logic behind Heatley signing a contract back in August 2010.
Economically for our county does it make financial sense? Surely our Deputy Superintendent with her extensive financial background should have caught this one. The Contract between the Sheriffs Dept and Heatley ( remember the school board hasn't voted on this one) states the county will pay 80% of salaries and equipment costs to the Sheriff.. Under the contract with Clayton County police the county only had to pay 20%. Hmm aren't we supposed to be cutting costs?
Second, Safety should be paramount to making or spending money. Now it is my understanding that Clayton County police were specifically trained in dealing with children. The Sheriffs dept is not. I am open to correction so if I'm wrong tell me. Now wouldn't an officer coming from a department that has no training, yet strip-searches a student be a red flag that maybe- just maybe this might be a mistake.
I told you I would keep my ear out. It is my understanding that a student at a Clayton county school (middle) was strip searched by a sheriff. I'm not saying any names, but you might know which school. Heatley knows about it, but still kept the contract with the Sheriffs dept. Again is it all about the kids or All about the money?
and on top of it the they talked the parent out of suing. There is some truth to rumor.
I don't know how you feel, but I just can't function in this turmoil within our educational community. I can personally say if that was my child the county might just go bankrupt with all the lawsuits I would file. We have really got to stick together and stay on the Board to make sure they do what they are supposed to or get all of them out of office. This my thought for the day.. This is not logical and therefore makes no sense.

And Away We Goooooooo!!!
Hey Everybody,
I was reading "Get Schooled" this morning and I saw a post that the inquiring public wanted a blog to continue informing the public about the School Board. Well it took me a little time, however I think I may have figured out how to blog. Thank God my middle schooler was home and helped me. This page is not going to have a bunch of bells and whistles, but I will have hot off the press information that is as accurate as I can give. I have to make sure I check facts, too. I definitely don't want to get sued. We are in a recession.
I would like to Thank Maureen Downey and Dr. Trotter again for allowing us to vent on their Blog- Let's all make sure that we still support them. I was pleased that Dr. Trotter confirmed most of the information that I posted eearlier and of course added some history and commentary to give us a well rounded perspective of how we got to where we are.
My hope is that I will be just as efficient in disseminating factual information. I will post a link to the Georgia Citizen so you can catch up on what's been going on. If you have been reading get schooled that your abreast of the recent developments. Currently I am working on finding out what happened to the objects of 'The Community Focus Group"- that what the group calls themselves so far. Also you can friend me on facebook - Logical Lane.
